Firewall Implementation
If you connect to the internet at all these days you should implement a firewall
to prevent other internet users from gaining access to your computer and network. These
are particularly important for Broadband users but even dial-up users are vulnerable.
There are various types of firewall ranging from free software implementations through
routers with built-in firewalls up to purpose designed hardware or dedicated unix solutions.
Whichever solution is chosen, configuring the firewall is a delicate balancing act between
securing your computer and network on the one hand and not over-restricting your application
software on the other.
